ANAHEIM, Calif., February 5, 2004 Disney's Aladdin A Musical Spectacular, which brings to life the popular Walt Disney Pictures animated film, is now in its second year of continuing performances at the Hyperion Theater inside Disney's California Adventure park in Anaheim.

The production is a spectacular entertainment that, over the course of a single act, tells the story of Aladdin and his adventures involving the beautiful Princess Jasmine; her father the Sultan; the evil Jafar; and of course Aladdin's hysterical wish granting Genie. It runs approximately 40 minutes and is presented several times per day. Disney's Aladdin A Musical Spectacular is free to park guests with paid admission to Disney's California Adventure.

Songs in the production are from the film score composed by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. Composer Menken has also written music and lyrics for the new song To Be Free especially for this production. The book is by Chad Beguelin.

Three of the musical numbers - One Jump Ahead, A Friend Like Me, and A Whole New World are staged on a scale which outdoes anything seen before in a Disney theme park. The entire production offers spectacle and entertainment of the caliber audiences have come to expect from the best Disney creations in any medium.

Disney's Aladdin A Musical Spectacular was produced under the artistic direction of New York theater veteran Anne Hamburger, Executive Vice President, Creative Entertainment, for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Hamburger assembled a team of Broadway and international theater professionals to create Disney's Aladdin A Musical Spectacular.

Director Francesca Zambello has staged musical theater and opera productions around the world, including London 's Royal National Theater, The Royal Opera at Covent Garden and stages in France , Austria , Los Angeles , Chicago , Seattle , Houston and Santa Fe . Last season she directed Les Troyens for the Metropolitan Opera and Boris Godunov for the Paris Opera.

Dances in Disney's Aladdin A Musical Spectacular are staged by Lynne Taylor-Corbett, who choreographed and directed Swing on Broadway and choreographed the Tony-winning Best Musical Titanic. Key designers for Disney's Aladdin include Tony Award-winning set designer, Peter J. Davison ( Copenhagen ) and costume designer Anita Yavich and lighting designer Mark McCullough, both known in major opera houses internationally. The musical arranger is Timothy Mark Williams, who has also arranged the music for the new Snow White An Enchanting New Musical at Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland park.

In order to perform Disney's Aladdin A Musical Spectacular multiple times, seven days a week, two casts and crews are used. Arnold J. Mungioli, a casting agent who primarily casts Broadway musical productions, found actors from New York , Los Angeles and San Francisco . The performers' resumes include Broadway, Los Angeles and national touring productions of musicals including Rent, Miss Saigon and Disney's The Lion King.

Hamburger has said of Disney's Aladdin, This creative team embodies our goal of creating great shows that will delight our guests in ways they have never before experienced, as well as changing the way that our theme park entertainment is viewed by the public at large.

Many people who visit our theme parks do not have the theater available to them or their children. I am truly excited to be introducing a new generation of future theatergoers to some of the most creative talents in the world in a format -- our single act shows -- that all audiences can appreciate.
