Our Recent Disney Fantasy Cruise: Star Wars Day at Sea

My family and I recently sailed on the Disney Fantasy. It was our third Disney Cruise Line vacation, and the first since the industry opened up again. I thought I’d share some of our experiences with you, so that you can decide if now is the time for your Disney Cruise Line vacation.

Part of the reason why we picked this particular cruise was because it was Star Wars Day at Sea. I’m a huge ‘Star Wars’ fan, and this has been my dream cruise ever since I first heard about it several years ago.

For Star Wars Day at Sea, there are extra ‘Star Wars’ related activities on one sea day. There are a couple of picture opportunities in the atrium, and those were there all along. ‘Star Wars’ movies played each day as well. If you aren’t a ‘Star Wars’ fan, you’ll still have a fabulous time.

One of the best parts of Star Wars Day at Sea was all of the extra characters. Mickey and Minnie took the day off, and we instead had Ezra and Sabine, Asoka Tano, and a Gamorrean Guard, to mention a few. Characters wandered through the atrium and Level Four (which was where most characters were found the other days) but they were just about anywhere.

There were two character encounters that we needed to make reservations for. The first was with Darth Vader in The Tube. The second was C-3PO and R2-D2 and then Chewbacca in Animator’s Palate.

We made our free reservations in the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App. We were able to make them 30 days in advance, and that day they went quickly. As people rescheduled or canceled, more spots opened up.

On Deck 11 by the pool there was a short stage show that took place several times. Rey was chased by two Stormtroopers, and then they stayed for a few minutes to take pictures.

There were other shows in places like D Lounge. ‘Star Wars’ movies played all day in the Buena Vista Theater, and ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ was shown in the Walt Disney Theater.

There was a special meal for our Star Wars Day at Sea dinner. It was the same menu in all three restaurants. This was my favorite dinner of the entire cruise. The food had creative names such as Jar Jar Binks Nyork Chowder and Yoda’s Pappardelle Pasta.  Princess Leia’s Warm Apricot Pudding was both hilarious and delicious.

Twice that evening there was a stage show that was about the light and dark sides of the Force. The show was good, but I honestly preferred the show on our Marvel Day at Sea cruise in 2019. That was exceptional.

We had ‘Star Wars’ fireworks, but they were the next evening. There were two shows, which were in conjunction with your dinner seating.

Star Wars Day at Sea lived up to my expectations. It looks like it might not return next year, since Pixar Day at Sea has been announced for the Disney Fantasy. I’m glad that we were finally able to go!

I grew up in Western Massachusetts. When I was nine my family went to Disneyland and I was hooked. I grew up, attended New England College in Henniker, NH, and eventually moved to Virginia. I worked as a disc jockey, married, and became a full time mom when our daughter was born. Fast forward several years. In 2010, we moved to Central Florida and my Disney obsession grew. I now work as a freelance writer and spend my spare time in the Parks. Under the name Paula Brown, I penned the novels 'Dream Wanderers' and 'The Coffee Cruiser'. I also am a co-author of 'Dining at Walt Disney World: The Definitive Guide'. I'm obsessed with Star Wars, so this is a good time to live in Central Florida.
